What is cream soap, and why will you love it?
Cream soap is a traditional soap making method that produces a creamy, semi-solid soap with a creamy shaving foam consistency. It can be used in various products, including cold cream face wash, shaving soap, and scrubs. Suitable for sensitive skin, it can contain premium ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and almond oil. It is also well liked as a creamy soap for dry skin.
DIY Cream Soap Recipe

Ingredients
- 130g sweet almond oil
- 170g coconut oil
- 110g palm oil
- 57g stearic acid
- 68g potassium hydroxide (KOH)
- 20g sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
- 567g Distilled Water
- 28g liquid glycerin
Steps
- Melt oils and butters until liquid, then mix glycerin and water, then sprinkle the resulting lye over the surface.
- Mix thoroughly to ensure that the lye dissolves fully. Add the oils to the lye water.
- Cream soaps require warmer processing temperatures (60°C or more) than CP soaps, causing curdled masses due to lye neutralizing stearic acid.
- Using a stick blender, blend for 1-2 minutes at a time, then rest for 2-3 minutes before whipping again.
- The mixture may take 5-10 minutes to become homogeneous, and if using essential oils, add them halfway through the mixing.
- Insufficient mingling can lead to separation, and individuals may develop an instinctive sense for "trace" with materials.
- Whipped cream soap's trace is thicker than conventional cold process soap, causing a difference in creaminess when the soap reaches trace amount.
- After tracing the soap, transfer it to sterilised jars or tubes and let it sit for 7–10 days before use.
- Check the pH. It should be in the pH 8-9 range.

Ingredients
- 600g Crystal OPC Base
- 18g Watermelon Fragrance Oil
- 6g Apricot Kernel Refined Oil
- 6g Polysorbate 80
- 6g Fantasia Pink Mica Powder
- 6g Pistachio Mica Powder
Steps
- Prepare your workplace. Before you begin, weigh out all of your components to make the procedure go more smoothly.
- Cut 600g of OPC base into small pieces for easier whipping and whip until it reaches a whipped cream consistency.
- Now, add 18g watermelon fragrance oil, 6g apricot kernel oil, and 6g polysorbate 80.
- Beat the base and add the ingredients until it has about doubled in volume.
- Divide the foundation into two separate containers to prepare a dual-colored whipped soap.
- Add the colouring to each container and stir until well blended.
- If you're using a piping bag, place a piece of cling film on the counter and arrange the two coloured mixtures next to each other.
- Fold the sides of the clingfilm and shape the mixture, making sure to remove any air pockets.
- Roll up the ends and use scissors to snip one end and place it inside the piping bag.
- Pipe the mixture into the containers.
- Now that your whipped creamy soap has set, you can use it immediately.

Strawberry and Cream Soap Recipe –
This homemade soap, scented with fresh strawberries and cream, can be made using specific ingredients. Here is the strawberry and cream soap recipe:

Ingredients
- 4 ounces of cream soap bar (melt-and-pour)
- 1/4 cup distilled water
- 4-6 drops of strawberry fragrance oil
- 1/4 cup powdered milk
- 3 drops of vanilla aroma oil or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3-5 drops of red food colouring (optional)
Steps
- Grate or slice the soap into tiny pieces using a very sharp knife.
- In the top of a double boiler, add the grated soap, water, and dried milk. (Alternatively, you can use a heatproof glass bowl over a pan of water.)
- Keep the water at the bottom of the double boiler simmering (approximately 2-3 cups).
- Stir the mixture occasionally and let it melt down to a smooth consistency.
- You can also whisk it with a wire whisk to remove any lumps.
- Remove from heat. Add the strawberry fragrance oil, the vanilla fragrance oil (or extract), and any food colouring you choose.
- It will give the soap a beautiful, rosy colour that resembles strawberries and cream.
- Spoon the soap into the moulds and let it sit for about 24 hours before unmolding. Then let it settle for a few hours before using.
- (To create small soaps without soap molds, you can use muffin tins, aluminium pie shells, or homemade candy molds. You can also transfer the mixture into a lightly greased loaf pan and cut the soap into bars.)
Coffee and Cream Soap Recipe
Coffee & heavy whipping cream soap offers a luxurious skincare experience, combining coffee's energizing smell and light exfoliation with heavy whipping cream's moisturizing and creamy properties. Here is the coffee and cream soap recipe:

Ingredients
Base Oils
- Coconut Oil – 288 grams
- Olive Oil – 324 grams
- Avocado Oil – 108 grams
- Rice Bran Oil – 108 grams
- Shea Butter – 72 grams
Lye Solution
- Lye – 126 grams
- Water – 150 grams
Scent
- Patchouli Essential Oil – 10 grams
- Orange Essential Oil – 20 grams
Colorants & Additives
- Instant Coffee – 1 teaspoon
- Heavy Whipping Cream – 102 grams
Steps
- Create a lye solution by weighing water and lye separately, adding sodium hydroxide slowly, and stirring until well dissolved. Now, set aside to cool.
- Add 1 teaspoon instant coffee and whisk to combine. Although it may smell, it will fade away in a few days.
- Melt solid oils and butters in a container, either in the microwave or on a low heat, then add liquid oils (if any.)
- Prepare your moulds, as needed.
- Check the temperature. You should now have two containers: one with liquid base oils and one with lye solution.
- Use an infrared temperature gun to measure the temperatures. Make sure to stir each combination before taking the temperature. You want your temperatures to be between 80 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Weigh your essential oils and place them in a glass or stainless steel container with your prepared base oils.
- Add the heavy whipping cream to the prepared oils. It will bead up and remain separated.
- Now, pour the lye solution into the prepared base oils/cream mixture and stir until trace. Because we aren't adding any colourants or dividing it into swirls, you can mix until it is thick. We'll add texture to the top of the soap mixture.
- Now, pour (or glop) the soap into your mould!
- To create a high-peaked soap top, leave the soap as it is or texture it by allowing it to thicken and using a spatula to scoop it into the centre of the mould and giving it a slight stir.
- Allow the soap to saponify and harden for 24 hours.
- Now, unmould and cut. If you topped the soap with coffee beans, cut it on its side to avoid dragging the beans through. (Because we used instant coffee, which completely dissolves, this soap will not exfoliate.) If you want to make a coffee scrub soap, make sure to include coffee grounds.
- Once the soap has cured for at least 4-6 weeks, it's ready for use.

What Makes Homemade Soap Creamy?
Homemade soaps become creamy through the combination of oils, fats, clays, milk, and saponification. Olive and castor oil contribute to a creamy lather, while clay and milk enhance texture. The saponification process of the cream soap recipe with lye produces a soft, silky feel in soap.
