Q: How do you make hand wash with essential oils using this base?
Creating a hand wash using a base and essential oils can be a simple and effective way to personalize your hygiene products. Here's a basic recipe to get you started:
Liquid Hand Wash Base: You can find liquid Hand bases in health stores or online. Look for a mild and natural base that suits your skin type.
Essential Oils: Choose essential oils based on their fragrance and potential benefits. Some options that are commonly used in hand washes include tea tree, lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, orange, and peppermint.
Distilled Water: If desired, you can dilute the hand base slightly with distilled water to achieve the desired consistency.
Empty Hand Wash Dispenser
Prepare Your Work Area: Ensure that your work area is clean and sanitized to maintain the hygiene of your DIY product.
Select Essential Oils: Choose the essential oils you want to use for fragrance and potential benefits. You can use a single oil or create a blend by mixing a few oils together.
Measure the Liquid hand Base: Pour the desired amount of liquid hand base into a mixing bowl. The amount will depend on the size of your hand wash dispenser and how concentrated you want the hand wash to be.
Add Essential Oils: Add essential oils to the liquid hand base. A common guideline is to add around 15-20 drops of essential oil per 8 ounces (240 ml) of liquid hand base, but you can adjust this based on your preference for scent strength. Start with a smaller amount and add more if needed.
Mix Thoroughly: Stir the mixture well to evenly distribute the essential oils throughout the soap base.
Optional: Add Distilled Water: If you prefer a slightly thinner consistency for your hand wash, you can add a small amount of distilled water to the mixture. This step is optional and depends on your personal preference.
Transfer to Dispenser: Carefully pour the mixed hand wash into an empty hand wash dispenser. Use a funnel if necessary to avoid spills.
Label and Store: Label the dispenser with the type of essential oils used and the date of preparation. Store the hand wash in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Shake Before Use: Essential oils can settle over time, so give the hand wash a gentle shake before each use to ensure the oils are well-mixed.
Remember that some essential oils have antibacterial or antimicrobial properties, but a DIY hand wash may not be as effective as commercial hand sanitizers for killing germs. It's important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to maintain proper hand hygiene.
Additionally, if you have allergies or sensitivities, it's a good idea to do a patch test on a small area of skin before using the hand wash regularly. If you're uncertain about using essential oils or have any underlying health conditions, consider consulting with a healthcare professional before making and using DIY skincare products.
